This is a great piece from a quantity of glamourous clothing I found at an estate sale for a woman who had been both an avid collector and entrepreneur with shops in the southwest. Most of the clothing had been stored for some time; just about everything survived well.
This is such a blast from the past! Made by Richform in the nylon taffeta of the era, it's done in four tiers with a great decorative accent. Between the third and fourth tiers there is a sheer insert that is embroidered with red...flowers perhaps. The bottom edge is banded in red, probably a cotton tape since it has faded some with time.
We don't have a size tag to go on; it measures 16-1/2" at the waist lying flat (the elastic definitely should be replaced and about 20-1/2" across the hips lying flat as well. It measures just under 120" around the bottom edge.
It was probably made to be the "pretty" one worn on top of several crinolines...just enough perkiness to be a finishing touch!
