This charming piece came from the estate of the very eclectic collector and vintage style fashionista. It's not known who might have made it, but there were many incredible examples of handwork on baby clothes, etc. that had been made by loving family hands. We'll never know.
The interior is done in a fine crochet in what I'd call a soft taupe. The beadwork is incorporated into the handle and designed into a wide band at the top. From there long, long loops of the silver metallic beads (almost a gunmetal color) shimmer their way down the sides.
The handle measures about 11-1/2", the top opening about 6" in circumference, and the length from top edge to bottom edge of loops is about 6-1/2". This tiny piece is remarkably heavy from the weight of the beads. The crochet bag itself measures about 3-1/2".
This little charmer certainly qualifies as a conversation piece par excellence! The closest I've come to finding something similar is what's called a wrist purse (a delightful tidbit for carrying while dancing). It's definitely a collector's item!
