This is the other piece from the estate of the eclectic collector that is a fragile and delicate work of art. It looks as if it is a beautiful glistening piece of petitpoint, done in rich shades of roses, oranges, golds, and blues in the flowers against varying shades of green foliage. The background is softest taupe or beige; the bottom accented with matching twisted loop fringe. The glass beads are beautiful and all beading is in excellent shape.
The squared frame is equally charming. Enameled "daisy" type flowers interspersed with swirls provide another accent, setting off a small shell shaped dangle on the front. The back side of the frame is not enameled. One of the most charming motifs on this purse are the sweet swans who hold the chain. I wish I knew whether this was a popular design or whether it was indicative of one maker.
The purse frame is 5-1/2" across and extends downward a bit more than 2". The beaded part hangs 8-1/2"; from top of the chain it measures 16-1/2". The beadwork is in excellent shape; the frame shows wear on only two of the flowers. The lining however should definitely be replaced. It has seen a lot of wear. The plus side of the holes in the lining though is that you can see how delicate the base for the beads is; it feels like silk or a fine linen to me...which makes the beadwork all the more exciting!
It is impossible not to fall in love with these tiny treasures, especially if you love fine and exquisite workmanship. You certainly develop a new appreciation for the artistry!
