This great wooden box purse came from the estate of a lady who loved to shop but didn't always wear everything she bought! It seems to have been stored for many years and dates probably from the 1960's.
It's similar to the Enid Collins' pieces in the style of the purse and uses a bejeweled scene as well. This "scene" is totally charming...an elegant lady is being driven by her chauffeur in a horseless carraigee that is to die for! Who wouldn't love to have a motor car that was done in black and metallic gold and embellished with gold braid, sequins and great sparkling red and gold rhinestones. (My camera simply wouldn't do justice to the sparkle of the red!) The design and adornments are in excellent shape.
The purse measures 11" x 8-1/2" x 2-7/8" and is in splendid condition itself. There are so few tiny scuff marks that you could assume they came from being stored rather than carried. The hardware is all shiny and in good shape as are the black plastic handle and fastener. There is a gold braid trimmed round mirror inside.
This vintage piece I think qualifies for "kept under wraps"...it's in that good a condition...and ready to go! Start the car!!
