This great purse came from the estate of a lady who loved to shop but didn't always use everything she bought! This purse has been stored for many years and could date anywhere from the late 1950's on.
I think this one is probably from the 1960-70's era when wooden purses was quite the thing. It's really nicely made, slatted much like a barrel perhaps, and shaped in a deep oval wider at the top than the bottom. A great shape! The wood has a good color stain and is highly lacquered. The focal point on the lid is a clever roadrunner, obviously in a hurry! The purse is trimmed top and bottom with a red braid and a smallish cactus tucked at the bottom front. A matching handle finishes the look.
The next surprise is the interior which is done in a bright red quilted cotton with multi-colored and patterned apples...a cute print. I've found one small stain on the bottom of the lining, but that doesn't affect the wear. Overall it looks brand new! The oval top measures 11" x 5-3/4" and it stands just under 7-1/2" tall.
All in all it's in splendid vintage shape and could right out on a shopping trip with its new owner!
